Christina Kovacs, MD

Program Director

Dr. Kovacs took over as the program director in May 2020. She is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology with additional fellowship training in both cytopathology and head and neck pathology. She completed her residency training and fellowships at Jackson Memorial Hospital/UM. She has published in pathology journals and authored book chapters. She has presented at regional and national meetings on head and neck pathology.

Renu Khode, MD

Associate Program Director

Dr. Khode is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology with additional fellowship training in both cytopathology and surgical pathology. She completed her entire training at Baylor Scott and White Health, Texas. She served in private practice for many years.

Vitaly Borodin, MD

Dr. Borodin is a pathology specialist based in Tampa, Florida, with over 20 years of experience. He earned his medical degree with honors from Kyrgyz State Medical Academy in 2002 and is affiliated with several hospitals. His subspecialties include cytopathology, molecular genetics, anatomic pathology, and clinical pathology.

Shreyash Pandya, MD

Dr. Pandya is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology with subspecialty training in hematopathology. He completed his residency at Ascension St. John Hospital in Detroit and fellowship at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. Prior to joining HCA in 2015, he spent 14 years with ProMedica Health System in Ohio and Southeast Michigan. He currently serves as Medical Director for the core market lab in HCA’s West Florida Division and at Northside Hospital in St. Petersburg, providing expert diagnostic services across multiple facilities.

Sophia Sher, MD

Dr. Sher is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology with fellowship training in gastrointestinal pathology. She completed her residency at Brookwood Baptist Health and fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. From 2021 to 2023, she worked as a staff pathologist at Cunningham Pathology in Birmingham. In May 2023, she joined FPS and serves as Associate Pathologist at HCA Brandon and South Shore Hospitals. Dr. Sher also teaches residents and medical students as core faculty at HCA Florida Brandon Hospital’s GME Pathology Residency Program. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, traveling, and family time. 

Roberto Silva-Aguiar, MD

Dr. Aguiar is a distinguished medical professional based in Brandon, Florida, with over four decades of experience in the field of medicine. A graduate of medical school in 1983, Dr. Silva-Aguiar has dedicated his career to advancing diagnostic medicine through his expertise in Pathology and Hematopathology.

Maria Wallis-Crespo, MD

Dr. Wallis became Medical Director of HCA Florida Largo Hospital in June 2025. She is board certified in anatomic pathology with fellowship training in pediatric pathology, focusing on placental and fetal pathology. She completed her residency at Pennsylvania Hospital, University of Pennsylvania, and fellowship at the University of South Florida. A longtime voluntary faculty member at UCF College of Medicine, she has published in Fetal Pediatric Pathology and continues to contribute to both clinical practice and academic advancement in pathology.
