Curriculum organization and resident experience
The curriculum for the TY Residency at HCA FL Citrus Hospital is structured to optimize resident educational experiences with a blend of patient care responsibilities, clinical teaching, and didactic educational events. With minimum of 24 weeks of FCS (Fundamental Clinical Skills), our program draws focus on Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Ambulatory Clinic, General Surgery with elective opportunities for additional Internal Medicine related specialties as well as obstetrics and pediatrics along with other specialties. On these rotations, the resident is the primary physician for their patients. Responsibilities include decision-making and direct care for all active issues on patient except for specific issues requiring subspecialty input. Electives
Per ACGME program specific requirements, residents must have at least eight weeks of elective rotations. HCA FL Citrus TY have a total of 12 weeks per academic year. Elective rotations must be determined by the educational needs of the individual resident. Electives include medical, surgical, and hospital-based specialties. Transitional Year residents will select their electives during their onboarding period prior to the start of the academic year.

Away elective rotations
If a resident chooses an away elective rotation, the resident must fill out an official Away Rotation Request Form and submit to the program director and program coordinator. Away electives should be determined during the onboarding process prior to the schedule being completed for the academic year. If a resident chooses to go on an away elective during the academic year, the resident must submit their Away Rotation Request Form six months in advance. The request must go through an approval and routing process. HCA Florida Citrus Hospital does not reimburse for any travel expenses, hotel lodging, or meals. Our facility does not provide housing or mileage reimbursement as electives are not a required off-site rotation.
