Machaiah Madhrira, MD, MPH, Program Director
Dr. Madhrira is board-certified in internal medicine with specialty certification in nephrology. He has more than 10 years of experience in graduate and undergraduate medical education and has consistently been recognized for excellence in teaching and contributions to the programs by his peers and his trainees. Dr. Madhrira established a strategic direction for this program which is recognized by his peers in new programs and is responsible for the standards, quality, and reputation of the program.
His teaching philosophy of utilizing evidence-based medicine and refining clinical skills has led to “pluripotent” residents who are outstanding general internists and are fully prepared for all types of subspecialty training. Dr. Madhrira has participated in multiple clinical trials and published many articles and abstracts in reputed peer-reviewed medical journals. In addition to his clinical and academic responsibilities, he also serves on multiple committees both within and outside the institution.
Saravanan Bala, MD, Associate Program Director
Dr. Bala is board certified in internal medicine with specialty certification in nephrology, clinical hypertension and interventional nephrology. He has been instrumental in curriculum development and provides peer-to-peer dialysis access training for qualified physicians as well as didactic training to the fellows-in-training on the core concepts in interventional nephrology. Dr. Bala is a prolific researcher, principal investigator and author or co-author of many publications in peer-reviewed medical journals. He is active within the American Society of Nephrology and the North Texas National Kidney Foundation. Dr. Bala enjoys teaching and has held academic positions as assistant professor of clinical medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine and associate professor of medicine at TCU/UNT Medical School in Fort Worth.
