Jason M. Clark, MD, FACS
Director of General Surgery Residency

Dr. Clark is a native of South Carolina and graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina. He completed his general surgery residency at Orlando Health along with his critical care fellowship. He received further fellowship training in Hand Surgery at the University of Mississippi through the plastic surgery division. He is board certified in all three. He continues to treat the acutely injured and critically ill patients while enjoying an upper extremity and soft tissue coverage practice. Most importantly, Dr. Clark proudly serves as the General Surgery Program Director at Trident and has been training residents since 2017.


Thomas Litton, MD
Associate Program Director

Dr. Thomas Litton is a native of Kentucky and a graduate of the University Of Kentucky College Of Medicine. Since 1988, his practice has included a wide range of general surgical problems, including benign and malignant disorders of the breast, endocrine, and gastrointestinal systems, utilizing open, minimally invasive, and robotic-assisted techniques. A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons since 1991, he has served as Chapter President of the South Carolina Chapter and Governor-at-large for South Carolina, in addition to serving as Chairman of Surgery, Chief of Staff, and several other capacities at Trident Health System.


Seon Jones, MD, FACS

Trauma surgeon board certified in general surgery and surgical critical care. Medical School at University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX 2000. Surgery internship and Residency at Naval Medical Center San Diego. Flight Surgeon for Navy. Fellowship at Vanderbilt. Retired from Navy. Currently the Trauma Director at Trident Medical Center, Charleston SC.


Rodney B. Young III, MD

Dr. Young has been in private practice surgery in Charleston since 1987. In addition to his private practice, Dr. Young is an Associate Professor at the Medical University of South Carolina. Received his medical degree from the University of South Florida.


Brent Jewett, MD, FACS

Chief of Surgery, Trident Medical Center. Trauma surgeon board-certified in general surgery and surgical critical care. Medical school at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA 2009. Surgery internship and residency at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. Fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina.


Alexander D. Soutter, MD, FACS, FAAP
Director of General Surgery Residency

Sam Soutter graduated from Harvard College with high honors. After medical school at Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons, he returned to Boston for his general surgery residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and a research fellowship at Children’s Hospital. He completed a fellowship in pediatric surgery at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and trained in pediatric urology at Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. He spent most of his career in his native Virginia, but joined Summerville Medical Center in 2017 to help launch its Level III NICU program. He is particularly interested in trans-umbilical, laparoscopic and thoracoscopic pediatric surgery.
