Welcome, and thank you for your interest in the HCA Houston Healthcare / University of Houston Kingwood EMS Fellowship. Our philosophy is that the EMS medical director is, at heart, a teacher, a mentor, and a clinician who leads best by providing the education EMS clinicians need to perform at the highest clinical level. Here, you will experience comprehensive medical direction across the entire continuum of care; from the first keystroke of a 9-1-1 call, to fire department first response, to scene management, to hospital handoff.
In Montgomery County, one of the nation's fastest-growing regions, you will step into the role of Assistant Medical Director within a nationally recognized county-based third-service EMS system. You will have 24/7 access to a response vehicle and we encourage field response, to provide real-time medical direction alongside the paramedics and EMTs you train. You will learn on the scene, in the dispatch center, and through active participation in case reviews, gaining a view of the entire system of care that few physicians ever see. And through active participation in quality assurance and protocol revision, you will have the opportunity to make a significant and lasting impact across the county.
You will grow as an educator and as a leader, sharpen your skills in the administrative and clinical work that defines the role, and take part in the research, teaching, and event and disaster medicine that give this program its regional and national footprint. Program overview
The HCA Houston Healthcare / University of Houston Kingwood Emergency Medical Services Fellowship is a new, comprehensive EMS fellowship located in Montgomery County, Texas, just outside of Houston. Our rigorous curriculum embeds the fellow directly within a suburban and rural third-service EMS system through our partnership with the Montgomery County Hospital District, where the fellow serves as Assistant Medical Director (MD 3). The program also provides substantial experience in fire department–based first response through The Woodlands Fire Department, as well as clinical quality oversight and educational leadership in aeromedical EMS through HCA Air Life.
The fellow will have 24/7 access to a medical director response vehicle and will be expected to participate in field response, providing real-time online medical direction and clinical support to our paramedics and EMTs. We firmly believe that a robust EMS fellowship experience is built on a balance of two settings: comprehensive quality assurance and quality improvement review in the office, and the delivery of outstanding patient care and clinical guidance to crews directly in the field.
The fellow will also be directly integrated into ALARM, MCHD's 9-1-1 Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP), which receives and manages emergency medical calls across all of Montgomery County and dispatches every EMS and fire unit in the region. The fellow will additionally participate in call-taking QA, offering an exceptional opportunity to oversee patient care from the very first moments of the 9-1-1 call through delivery to the hospital.
Montgomery County is a thriving, rapidly growing region north of Houston and an excellent place to both work and live. The area also offers abundant clinical opportunities, situated less than an hour from the Texas Medical Center in Houston, which is the largest medical complex in the world.

Salary & Benefits Information
