Bryan Kharbanda, MD, Program Director

Bryan Kharbanda completed both his MD and Emergency Medicine Residency training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He has served as Emergency Department Chair for several hospitals throughout the Gulf Coast and has chaired numerous advisory council positions for the community. A former high school teacher, he remains dedicated to resident and medical student well-being and development. He is excited about the opportunity to build a new Emergency Medicine Residency program in our nation’s most diverse city. He is even more enthusiastic about building a strong foundation for our future doctors.

Stevely Koshy, MD, Assistant Program Director

Dr. Koshy serves as an Associate Program Director for the HCA Clear Lake Emergency Medicine Residency Program. He is board certified in Emergency Medicine and has extensive experience in academic leadership, resident education, and clinical practice. A two-time Educator of the Year award recipient, Dr. Koshy previously served as an Assistant Program Director in New York and as Research Director at an emergency medicine residency in HCA Kingwood. He holds a Master's in Medical education with academic interests in curriculum development, faculty development, and mentorship. He is also passionate about global health, participating in international medical mission trips. During his free time Dr. Koshy enjoys cooking and spending time with his family.

Janae Dark, MD, MBA, MPH, Core Faculty, Emergency Medicine Dept. Chair

James Vincent, MD, FACEP, FAAP, Core Faculty, Pediatric Emergency Medicine Chair - Dr. Vincent obtained his undergraduate degree in Biology at Abilene Christian University before attending UTMB Galveston for medical school, graduating in 2000. He then pursued a residency in Emergency Medicine at UT Houston/Hermann Hospital, where he was chief resident of his third year class of 2003, followed by a fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine / Texas Children’s Hospital.

After completing fellowship, Dr. Vincent joined HCA, and in 2008, he was the founding director of the Pediatric ER at HCA Clear Lake, at the time the only dedicated pediatric emergency department between Houston and Galveston. He also served as the Medical Director for Galveston EMS from 2013-2017. Then in 2017, he made a career switch to freestanding ER care, where he served EliteCare League City in various leadership roles, including Pediatric Medical Director, Concussion Program Director, Medical Director, and Quality Director during his time with them. Most recently, he returned to HCA Clear Lake January 2025 to serve as the Pediatric ER Director, as well as a core faculty for the new ER Residency.

In his spare time, Dr. Vincent enjoys spending time with his family, attending a small church in League City, hiking, and caring for his multiple pets. He met his wife in medical school at UTMB, where she has remained and is now a Professor of OB/Gyn and physician researcher. His three children have a strong interest in media, with his oldest having graduated from UT with a film studies degree; his daughter pursuing video game design as a computer scientist at Texas State; and his youngest a professional actor with three movies and an Amazon show appearance among his many credits.

Derrick Huang, MD, Core Faculty, Research Liason

Derrick Huang, MD, is an emergency physician with a strong interest in teaching, point-of-care ultrasound, and academic investigation. He was chief resident at HCA/University of Central Florida Ocala EM Residency program and is on the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Emergency Medicine. Outside of work, he enjoys cooking, investing, and hitting the gym.

Carissa Ford, MD, Core Faculty, Ultrasound Program Director

Dr. Ford graduated from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, completed her emergency medicine residency in Miami, and went on to complete an ultrasound fellowship in San Antonio. She currently serves as the Ultrasound Program Director for the HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake / University of Houston Emergency Medicine Residency Program. Born at this very hospital, Dr. Ford is proud to have come full circle and to be back home, serving her community and spending time with friends and family.

Joshua Tsau, MD, Core Faculty, Associate Medical Director

Dr. Joshua Tsau was born and raised in San Francisco, but has been in Texas since high school. He now wears boots on shift, and finally considers himself a Texan. He did undergrad at Texas A&M where he met his wife, medical school at UT Houston, EM Residency at the University of Central Florida-Orlando and EMS Fellowship in San Antonio. Dr Tsau finally made his way back to Houston to work in the Texas Medical Center and Clear Lake. He has two little boys, hobbies include jiu jitsu, cooking, gardening. Interests within EM include all things meta: systems, logistics, operations, policies, procedures, efficiency.

Luis Rodriguez, MD, Core Faculty

Dr. Rodriguez earned his medical degree and completed his emergency medicine residency at Baylor College of Medicine. He lives in Galveston with his wife and young son. In his free time, he enjoys fishing and spending time with his family at the beach.

Truman Milling, MD, Core Faculty

Truman Milling is a clinician scholar and clinical trial investigator focused on anticoagulation management in emergent bleeding and thromboembolic scenarios. He designs, oversees and conducts prospective multi-site trials nationally and globally in acute and post-acute illness. He lectures nationally and globally and has published peer reviewed manuscripts in Lancet, New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA and many other leading medical journals.
