How to Apply

Welcome from our Program Director

A warm welcome to our newly accredited Categorical Internal Medicine Residency Program at HCA Florida Capital Hospital, sponsored by the University of Central Florida. We are excited to begin this new chapter in graduate medical education and to build a program that blends the legacy of medicine with the innovations that will shape its future.

As Program Director, I bring a background in Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, and Palliative Care Medicine, with extensive clinical experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings, as well as over nine years of involvement in medical education. My goal is to mentor residents in developing not only medical knowledge and clinical skill, but also resilience, empathy, and leadership.

Tallahassee, our home and teaching site, offers a low cost of living, proximity to beautiful beaches, and a dynamic community enriched by Florida's top universities and the energy of the state capital. It is an inspiring and supportive environment in which to live, learn, and grow.

We look forward to welcoming residents who share our passion for advancing medicine, serving patients, and shaping the future of healthcare. Here, you will not only train to meet the needs of today but also become a changemaker for the healthcare challenges of tomorrow.

Program overview

As one of our first residents, you will help define the culture, traditions, and innovations of this program. Together, we will establish a strong foundation of excellence that will guide future generations of physicians.

Our curriculum is designed in accordance with the latest ACGME requirements and features a contemporary 4+1 schedule that balances continuity clinic with diverse clinical rotations. Training takes place in a high-acuity community hospital, where you will gain exposure to both underserved populations and an aging patient community, fostering expertise in delivering evidence-based, compassionate care. We also incorporate the latest tools and approaches, including point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) and the applications of artificial intelligence in medicine, alongside a strong emphasis on resident wellness.

Program details

Our residency follows a 4+1 curriculum, balancing core inpatient rotations with protected continuity clinic blocks. This ensures residents receive strong outpatient training while maintaining inpatient continuity.

Residents will rotate through general medicine wards, intensive care, geriatrics, palliative care, emergency medicine, and a variety of subspecialties. Electives are available in cardiology, nephrology, infectious disease, oncology, and more.

Our hospital serves a diverse community in Tallahassee, including rural, underserved, and aging populations. Residents gain significant experience managing complex cases across all demographics.

We are developing strong subspecialty affiliations through HCA and UCF. Our curriculum emphasizes evidence-based medicine, scholarly activity, and mentorship, positioning residents for competitive fellowship applications.
