About Our Program
Welcome to the HCA Healthcare / Mercer University School of Medicine Surgical Critical Care Fellowship Program at Trident Medical Center.
Thank you for your interest in our program! At Trident Medical Center, we offer a one-year Surgical Critical Care Fellowship designed to provide a riveting and immersive clinical experience. Our mission is to develop the next generation of physicians and physician leaders with the expertise and judgment necessary to deliver safe, high-quality critical care. Our fellow will have the knowledge and training necessary to excel in the Surgical Critical Care Certifying Examination, administered by the American Board of Surgery.
Our fellowship nurtures an energetic environment, where advanced education flourishes. Our board-certified faculty provides fellows with incomparable opportunities to expand their knowledge and promote academic and professional growth.
Program highlights include:
- Comprehensive Clinical Training: Hands-on experience with 10 months in the Surgical ICU and 2 months of electives tailored to individual career aspirations.
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Training alongside diverse healthcare teams during daily multidisciplinary rounds.
- Research and Professional Development: Opportunities to participate in research, quality improvement initiatives, and teaching activities that prepare fellows for leadership roles in critical care.
- Personalized Education: Emphasis on self-directed learning and continuous academic advancement.
- The Surgical Critical Care Fellowship is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)
- Our Fellowship accepts (1) fellow per year

Our Surgical Critical Care Fellowship Program at Trident Medical Center is committed to nurturing a collaborative and supportive environment that highlights hands-on learning, evidence-based practice, and professional growth. We strive to train all of our fellows to be competent clinicians, skillful proceduralists, compassionate communicators and overall thorough intensivists.

$950 for on-call meals will be allotted to each resident.
Eligible applicants must have completed residency training in their primary specialty and hold board-eligible status.
New fellows receive up to $1,000 for orientation (if it takes place before the official contract employment date).
