I would like to personally welcome you to the Riverside Community Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program! We are focused on recruiting those interested in helping us continue to build our successful program. Our curriculum is built around improving the health of the underserved population in the Inland Empire of Southern California. Our experienced academic faculty are actively expanding primary care in our community in partnership with our residents.

HCA Healthcare Riverside FMRP is a community-based program focused on recruiting and training physician leaders. With its inaugural class starting in 2017, our program was developed around improving the health of the underserved population in the Inland Empire of Southern California. We focus on diversity to reflect our diverse population made up of Latino, Middle Eastern, Vietnamese, and refugee patients to name a few. Our experienced faculty are passionate about serving our community and inspiring our residents to pursue a career in working with marginalized populations. Our program is dedicated to creating a safe and comfortable learning environment, focusing on team building and creating lifelong relationships with colleagues.
The program is based out of Riverside Community Hospital, located in downtown Riverside. The hospital is a staple of the community and has been serving the Inland Empire region since 1901. The hospital provides a strong educational experience as it houses, 542 Licensed Bed Facility a level 1 trauma center, level III NICU, and comprehensive stroke center and STEMI receiving center and Surgery and robotic surgery. Our residency continuity clinics are based in Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC), which provides residents an opportunity to provide high-quality, cost-effective care within a high-functioning patient-centered clinic. Our curriculum is based on the clinic-first model, which prioritizes continuity and the primary care experience during resident training. This model mimics the work-life of a primary care physician allowing residents to experience the essential elements of high-functioning primary care.

FAQs
RCH is a 517-bed capacity hospital with many subspecialities including both Family Medicine/Internal Medicine, Surgical/Medical/Neuro ICU, Level III NICU, L&D, 82 bed ER, and many more. The patient load is distributed amongst our numerous residency and fellowship programs offering a great balance of patient learning and volume.
We have six residents per PGY level currently. PGY-1 spends about 50% of their time on hospital-based rotations such as inpatient, ER, ICU, L&D, but also has the other half of the year on outpatient rotations such as newborn pediatrics, continuity clinic, community medicine, and outpatient orthopedics. PGY-2 and PGY-3 focus more on outpatient primary care & subspecialty services.
We primarily rotate at our main hospital in Riverside or at our continuity clinics. Our continuity clinics are established at Moreno Valley and Bloomington, about a 20 minute drive from the main hospital. Our inpatient pediatrics rotation is located at Pomona Valley Hospital, and many of our core outpatient rotations and electives are located within a 15-30 minute drive from the hospital.
Most of our residents have gone to work in primary care in various settings, including private practice, FQHC's, managed care clinics, urgent care, hospitalist or fellowship. Most of our residents end up working in the Inland Empire, Los Angeles, San Diego or Orange County.
We host wellness events from the program once in the summer and once in the winter/spring! We recently hosted a yacht party in July with our class to provide some rest & relaxation. Our chief residents also plan social events after didactics with our class monthly.
Meals are provided at the hospital! We have a $150 balance that resets every 2 weeks at our cafeteria, with meals costing about $10-15. We also serve Chik-Fil-A on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Parking is free and covered in a secure parking garage for all of our residents a short walk away from our hospital and dedicated GME building.
We offer a robust variety of electives including a new Sports Medicine track at both Kaiser-LA and Fontana, aesthetics clinic, community medicine, ENT, urgent care, medical Spanish, practice management, palliative care, and more.
We provide a strong education in working with an underserved patient population with both our hospital and clinic settings, while also providing a work-life balance in residency. We also have many opportunities for procedures as well. We are confident you will be a well-trained physician able to thrive in a multitude of environments after training here!
We are looking for applicants who have an understanding of how social determinants of health affect patients, have an interest or past experience working with the underserved, or wish to learn how to collaborative in a multidisciplinary setting!
Yes, we accept COMLEX-USA scores for osteopathic (DO) applicants. USMLE scores are optional and are not required if you have completed COMLEX-USA examinations.
