About our program

The Family Medicine Residency Program at Doctors Hospital of Augusta is a three-year, ACGME-accredited program offering four residency positions each academic year. Our inaugural class is set to commence in July 2026. This program is proudly affiliated with the Mercer University School of Medicine. Our faculty brings a wealth of experience in Family Medicine, specializing in areas such as geriatric care, inpatient medicine, etc., ensuring our residents receive top-notch training.

Doctors Hospital of Augusta is a Level II trauma center with over 350 beds, treating more than 3,000 burn patients annually nationwide. Residents have full access to a state-of-the-art Simulation Center, enhancing residents' hands-on learning experience. Additionally, residents have designated time each week for didactics covering a wide range of topics. Ultimately, our program offers residents the opportunity to care for disadvantaged patients.

Located in central Georgia, Augusta is globally recognized as the home of the Masters Golf Tournament. Whether you're interested in exploring museums, boating, golfing, shopping, or enjoying a meal at one of Augusta's acclaimed restaurants, you'll find ample options to suit your taste. Plus, the city is just a short drive to Atlanta, Savannah, Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head, and more.

FAQs

Applications for the following year's class are accepted beginning in mid-September. Our programs only accept electronic applications through ERAS (the Electronic Residency Application Service). The required documents for an application are the same as those for ERAS (two letters of recommendation, the Dean's letter, formal transcripts, USMLE/COMLEX transcripts, and a personal statement). We would like at least one of the letters to be from a family medicine physician.
No minimum scores are required; however, all applicants must have passed USMLE/COMLEX1 and report their USMLE/COMLEX2 status by the time they are considered for interviews.
The Family Medicine program has been approved for 12 total residents (4 residents per class).
