HCA Florida Capital Hospital is proud to partner with the University of Central Florida College of Medicine in launching our newly ACGME-accredited Transitional Year Residency Program.
This program is designed to bring together residents with diverse career aspirations who are committed to serving the communities of North Florida and South Georgia. The Transitional Year model provides a strong, well-rounded clinical foundation, making it an ideal pathway for those pursuing advanced training in specialties such as Dermatology, Anesthesiology, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Ophthalmology, Radiation Oncology, Radiology, and Neurology.
Our residency is fully integrated within a growing and dynamic Graduate Medical Education environment at HCA Florida Capital Hospital, alongside established programs in Psychiatry, Dermatology, and Internal Medicine. Together, we are building a collaborative training experience focused on excellence, innovation, and compassionate patient care.

Program overview
The Transitional Year Residency Program at HCA Florida Capital Hospital is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and proudly affiliated with the University of Central Florida College of Medicine.
As a community-based program, we offer a strong, well-rounded clinical foundation designed to prepare residents for advanced training across a wide range of specialties. The program accepts fifteen residents per year and is structured to provide broad exposure to key disciplines, including internal medicine, emergency medicine, and general surgery, along with flexible elective opportunities tailored to individual career goals.
Residents train in diverse clinical settings that enhance exposure to varied patient populations and healthcare delivery models. The curriculum is organized into four-week rotation blocks, allowing for a dynamic and comprehensive educational experience with dedicated faculty across multiple specialties.
Our program emphasizes high-quality patient care, clinical excellence, and the development of critical thinking skills essential for success in any specialty. In addition, we are deeply committed to resident wellness, fostering a supportive environment that prioritizes balance, resilience, and meaningful professional relationships throughout training.

Call rooms are available for residents during night float rotation.

Lactation rooms are available.
Equipment
Residents are provided with a work laptop and a cell phone during orientation. Residents are expected to return these devices at the end of their training.
Curriculum highlights
Our curriculum is designed to complement resident's rotations. Residents will have protected educational time to attend weekly didactic conferences.
