Welcome from our program director

Welcome to HCA Florida Citrus Hospital / USF Morsani College of Medicine, Transitional Year Residency Program located in rural Inverness, Florida!

We offer a 1 year (12 month), ACGME accredited, transitional year residency program. This program is designed to provide a broad-based program of graduate medical education that provides exposure to multiple medical specialties. These broad exposures can serve to help residents in choosing their specialty of choice. These experiences can also serve to provide experiences required by certain residencies that require a year of fundamental skills training prior to specialty training commencing.

About our program

HCA Florida Citrus Hospital serves as our sponsoring organization. HCA Florida Citrus Hospital also serves as the sponsoring organization to our sponsoring program of Internal Medicine. The same resources that are available to our sponsoring Internal Medicine program will also be available to our Transition Year residents in order to provide a supportive environment conducive to learning.

Our curriculum will include thirteen four-week blocks that include exposure in inpatient medicine, outpatient medicine, surgery, and quality. We will also provide experiences with multiple subspecialty rotations as well as providing electives in order to customize our Transition Year experiences. Overall, we aim to offer residents a broad-based experience that covers the art, science, and business of medicine in multiple specialties where residents can pursue areas of interest.

Progress through the Transitional Year will be tracked by our Clinical Competency Committee (aka CCC) and be based on the ACGME milestones. Additionally, Transitional Year residents will be expected to have completed USMLE or COMLEX Step 3 exams prior to completion of the program. Transitional year residents will have access to the same review materials and resources as our Internal Medicine program.
