We appreciate your interest in the General Surgery Residency program at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colorado. We are a community-based Level I Trauma Center with specialized resources and expertise. The physicians who practice here address the most complex of traumas.
General surgery residents will learn from and train with board-certified critical care/trauma surgeons and general surgeons who practice in many different specialties and who provide the very best care in the region.
Our goal is to mold competent, well-trained general surgeons who can go into the community and practice immediately or who can pursue a fellowship for additional training.
Our hospital is well respected with exceptional patient outcomes. We have enjoyed tremendous growth and an increase in volume in recent years. We have over 22 ORs, interactive technology in 4 ORs, and a newly remodeled surgery waiting room.
Our residency program has its own dedicated residency workspace/didactics suite equipped with computers and technology. We have our own FLS and FES training equipment. We have a new residency simulation lab where our hands-on training equipment is located and used. We also have a large hospital conference center, a hospital library, and multiple call rooms.
We are an ACGME accredited residency program. We originally began our residency in August 2014 with American Osteopathic Association accreditation and then received our initial ACGME accreditation in fall 2017. We are now under ACGME continued accreditation without outcomes.
Our program and hospital are part of the HCA Healthcare. As part of a large healthcare system, we have an abundance of research resources and a specialized trauma research department in-house. We require each resident to produce one published research publication during our five-year residency program.
Through HCA Healthcare, we can offer residents opportunities for careers and fellowship programs. We strongly recommend you consider our residency program for your surgical training.
