About our program

This newly accredited Surgical Critical Care (SCC) Fellowship at HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest is a one-year, ACGME-approved program starting in 2025. As the first of its kind in the HCA Gulf Coast Division, the program offers an immersive experience at a busy Level II Trauma Center in Houston, Texas.

Curriculum Highlights

  • Clinical Leadership: Lead daily multidisciplinary rounds in the Surgical/Trauma ICU and direct patient care under faculty mentorship.
  • Operative Experience: Perform emergency surgical procedures, including trauma and emergency general surgery (EGS) cases.
  • Procedural Proficiency: Master critical care procedures such as bedside ultrasound, percutaneous tracheostomy, and invasive hemodynamic monitoring.
  • Academic Engagement: Participate in a structured didactic curriculum, weekly core conferences, and journal clubs.
  • Research & Quality Improvement: Conduct clinical research and participate in trauma process improvement and quality initiatives.

At full complement, we will have a total of 2 fellows.
Yes, we accept IMG; however, it is preferred applicants have graduated no more than 2 years prior to applying to the program.
Hospital training programs do not sponsor visas. The Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) is the sole sponsor of J-1 physicians in clinical training programs. For more information, please visit www.ecfmg.org.
