Rajendran Sabapathy, MD, Program Director

Dr. Sabapathy is a board-certified, fellowship-trained interventional cardiologist with Midwest Heart & Vascular Specialists located in Overland Park, KS. With years of training and experience, he is board certified in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology. Dr. Sabapathy’s areas of interest include coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction, peripheral vascular disease, and treatment of venous insufficiency. He has completed numerous research projects and publications focusing on the identification of coronary artery disease in the emergency room, in women and the elderly. In addition, he has published numerous case reports detailing complex coronary interventions.

Jayasheel Eshcol, MD, Associate Program Director

Dr. Eshcol holds board certifications in nuclear cardiology and echocardiography as well as cardiovascular disease. He has specialized expertise and advanced interventional cardiology fellowship training in structural heart disease, including transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and transcatheter mitral valve repair and replacement (TMVR, Mitraclip).

In addition to patient care, Dr. Eshcol is active in academics, training and research, and has published numerous articles, abstracts and papers. He has received numerous awards and honors for his patient care, clinical excellence and teaching abilities. Dr. Eshcol is a member of the American College of Cardiology, Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, and American College of Physicians.

Ujjaval Patel, MD

is board certified in Internal Medicine as well as board certifications in Cardiovascular Disease. His expertise includes general and interventional cardiology and peripheral vascular interventions. Dr. Patel specializes in complex coronary interventions like ablation and chronic total occlusion interventions. He performs intravascular ultrasound, intracardiac ultrasound and percutaneous closure of the patent foramen ovale and atrial septal defects.

Thomas Baldwin, MD

Dr. Baldwin has more than 30 years of experience, and offers expertise in areas including acute coronary syndrome, arrhythmia, heart blockages, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and unstable angina. He performs procedures including ablations, pacemaker insertion, cardioversion and coronary angioplasty, among others.  Dr. Baldwin is a diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, Interventional Cardiology, and fellow and diplomat of the American College of Cardiology. He also holds membership in the American College of Physicians.

Thao Duong, MD

Dr. Duong utilizes minimally invasive techniques to treat patients with acute myocardial infarctions (heart attacks), coronary artery disease, and valvular heart disease, with advanced training in complex and high-risk percutaneous coronary interventions. Additionally, Dr. Duong has a strong interest in the multidisciplinary management of heart failure and cardiogenic shock. She also specializes in women’s heart health, with particular focus on heart conditions predominately affecting women, such as microvascular angina, spontaneous coronary artery dissection, and coronary vasospasm. Dr. Duong has been active in education and research. Prior to interventional cardiology, she was on faculty as a cardiologist at University of California San Diego teaching residents and fellows. She has authored several abstracts and manuscripts in medical journals, including the Journal of Invasive Cardiology and JAMA Cardiology.
