Welcome Applicants,

Congratulations on reaching this point in your journey to become a physician and a psychiatrist. We hope you will consider joining us here at the HCA Healthcare/Tufts University School of Medicine: Portsmouth Regional Hospital Psychiatry Residency to complete the next stage of your journey. Our program's core purpose is to provide an exceptional training in psychiatry for the next generation of psychiatrists and leaders in health care. As a new program, we strive to create a warm and welcoming environment as we grow the program together!

We have designed the training experience to provide the opportunity to treat patients with a wide range of psychiatric disorders, using a variety of treatment modalities, in both in-patient and outpatient settings. Our main training site is at Portsmouth Regional Hospital in our 32 bed inpatient unit. Off site rotations at specialized hospitals will broaden that experience to encompass the widest range of patients from childhood to the end of life, drawn from the entire state. Our outpatient training completes exposure to all aspects of psychiatric care, including a wide range of psychotherapeutic strategies as well as medication management. The program actively promotes an environment of curiosity and fosters a research environment that aims to contribute to medical knowledge and to stimulate innovative thinking in both residents and faculty members. Being part of HCA Healthcare gives our residents unequaled access to support in pursuing research initiatives.

Our goal is to graduate psychiatrists who are well trained but also ready to embark on a lifetime of learning to remain beacons of excellence. We hope that some of you will fall in love with our beautiful and welcoming Seacoast community and will remain to build a career here, expanding the psychiatric services so needed in our community and helping our program to grow.

Warmly,

Mary Alice O’Dowd, MD
