This community-based program has three residents per year and is designed to provide a patient-centric and evidence-based training experience that prepares each resident physician for a career in women's health. Our faculty are dedicated to combining the academic foundations of residency training with the "real world" experience of practice. Our residency program is designed to prepare residents for clinical practice or fellowship if further training is desired.
Residents are exposed to general obstetrics and gynecology, benign gynecologic surgery including robotics, as well as rotations through the subspecialty fields: maternal fetal medicine, reproductive endocrinology and infertility, urogynecology, and gynecology oncology. We offer mentorship and guidance that will carry through all aspects of your training, supporting your development as a physician and as a person. We expect our graduates to be competent and compassionate physicians who will serve as tomorrow's leaders in women's health.
We offer a rigorous didactic teaching schedule to cover the full breadth of obstetrics and gynecology. Included in our didactic offerings are Journal Club, Morbidity and Mortality conferences, and simulation labs. We are also developing partnerships with other GME programs in the HCA South Atlantic region for research opportunities and our experienced faculty provide hands-on instruction and clinical experiences.
Summerville Medical Center is in a booming part of the Low Country in South Carolina and offers great opportunities for residents and their families. Our new Graduate Medical Education space is 5,000 square feet with dedicated parking for residents and includes two conference rooms, shower and locker facilities, numerous office spaces, a large communal gathering space with a ping-pong table, and a kitchen.
