Welcome from our Program Director

Welcome to the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency Program at Florida HCA Blake Hospital in Bradenton, Florida. Florida HCA Blake Hospital has served Manatee County, Florida, for 50 years. The Rehabilitation Center has operated as a CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) for 45 years.

About Our Program

The HCA Florida Healthcare/USF Morsani College of Medicine GME Blake Hospital Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency Training Program aims to:

  • Graduate well–rounded physiatrists who are ready for autonomous practice with the knowledge and skills to successfully pass the certifying examination of the American Board of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (ABPMR).
  • Collaborate with internal and external organizations and agencies to ensure patients are provided with the medical services and support necessary to reach their full potential for independence and quality of life.
  • Provide residents with the clinical and educational experiences necessary to become proficient in administering and interpreting electrodiagnostic tests such as electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies (NCS).
  • Promote a scholarly environment by providing faculty members and residents with the resources, time, and research staff members necessary to design, complete, and disseminate clinical, translational, and basic science research projects.
  • Nurture a sense of community and inclusiveness within the residency program and training sites that celebrate people from different backgrounds and perspectives.

Mission Statement

The HCA Florida Healthcare/USF Morsani College of Medicine GME Blake Hospital Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency Training Program is committed to training physiatrists who deliver compassionate, evidence-based care to a diverse patient population with physical limitations, cognitive impairments, and/or disabilities.

Residents will apply what they learn during clinical and didactic training experiences to develop a holistic approach to patient care.

The program will emphasize scientific investigation, leadership, and advocacy, locally and nationally, to advance safe, cost-effective care for all patients. Faculty members and residents will improve the overall health and wellness of the patient population of Bradenton, Florida, and Manatee County through community education efforts on topics such as stroke prevention and fitness strategies. The sponsoring institution’s overarching mission will drive every patient encounter: "Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life."
