Dr. Baker, Program Director

Welcome to our Transitional Year Residency Program at HCA Florida Blake Hospital in the "friendly city" of Bradenton Florida.

My name is Dr. Mark P. Baker, I am the Program Director for TY Program. I was born and raised in Southwest Florida, and I had the honor of becoming part of the inaugural class of Internal Medicine Residency here at Blake Hospital. I have since become Associate Program Director of Internal Medicine Residency and Program Director of Transitional Year Residency.

We are ACGME accredited one-year program with 13 positions available each year and we are affiliated with USF Morsani College of Medicine. We offer a broad range of rotations at our Level II Trauma Center, most of which are listed below this welcome letter.

One of my top priorities is to provide incoming residents with ample balance between required rotations and elective opportunities (4 months). Additionally, our residents have a two-week rotation with Quality Department to broaden their exposure to quality improvement, research and administrative tasks.

At HCA Florida Blake Hospital you will receive outstanding training focused on providing quality education and quality patient care. We have a robust didactic program which includes morning report, daily noon conferences as well as monthly Journal Club, M&M Conferences and Grand Rounds. HCA Florida Blake Hospital is a Level II Trauma Center and a 383-bed licensed facility with over 72,000 patients treated annually. It is also one of six Burn Centers in the State of Florida. We have a Comprehensive Stroke Center, Heart and Valve Institute, Hyperbaric Medicine, Inpatient Rehab Unit, Complex Hand Repair, Joint Care Center, Robotic Surgery and a Sleep Disorders Center.

I personally invite you to become part of our dynamic team, so that our program may continually grow and improve.

Sincerely,
Mark P. Baker, MD
