Stephen K. Richardson, MD

Program Director

Dr. Richardson has received multiple awards for his research pertaining to skin cancer and has been a recipient of the National Research Service Award. He has presented his work at both national and international medical conferences and has published numerous papers and book chapters relating to skin cancer and psoriasis.


Andras Schaffer, MD, PhD

Associate Program Director

Following fellowship, Dr. Schaffer was an NIH-funded research scientist and attending dermatopathologist in the Department of Dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was also the Director of the Penn Cutaneous Lymphoma Diagnostic Service. He is widely published in the fields of basic immunology and dermatopathology.


Armand B. Cognetta, Jr., MD

Core Faculty

Dr. Cognetta is founder and president of Dermatology Associates of Tallahassee, PA. He is also a Fellowship Director for the American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology, training one fellow each year. Dr. Cognetta is widely published and lectures on early detection of melanoma and skin cancer management.


Michael J. Bernhardt, MD

Core Faculty

Dr. Bernhardt has been a board-certified dermatologist since 1984 and directs the Continuity Clinic. He has a passion for all things dermatological, especially advanced therapies for immunologic-based conditions and tumor discovery & removal. In addition, he stays heavily involved in clinical research, industry consulting, and speaking internationally at medical meetings.


Dr. Marc J. Inglese, MD

Core Faculty

Dr. Inglese directs the residency’s Rural Health Clinics. He is dual board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Dermatology and sits on the Board of Governors for the Florida Medical Association. He specializes in dermatological care for adults and children, and internal medicine.


Dr. Kaisa van der Kooi, MD

Core Faculty

Dr. van der Kooi is a board-certified dermatologist and has completed fellowship trainings in dermatopathology and mohs surgery. She enjoys all aspects of dermatology and welcomes patients of all ages. Dr. van der Kooi also has a passion for anti-aging procedures such as lasers, fillers, and neuromodulators.
