Mission Statement
The HCA Florida Lake Monroe Internal Medicine Residency program's mission is to recruit and train the next generation of physician and healthcare leaders that will serve and provide care to the Greater Orlando population.
As a part of HCA Healthcare, we are driven by a single mission: Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life.
This program is designed to offer residents a rewarding, educational environment where residents are provided individualized learning opportunities by faculty and staff who support and sustain one another throughout quality care delivery. Our faculty are committed to ensuring the residents' clinical experience and educational needs are fulfilled while expanding their perspectives to be inclusive of cultures, values and ideals.
Program Overview
We are an exciting NEW Internal Medicine program that received initial accreditation from the ACGME, and our inaugural class of interns will start in July 2024. Our program is focused on training the next generation of outstanding internists, while helping them achieve their professional aspirations through a wide array of clinical opportunities. In addition to core clinical rotations and electives, our program provides a robust longitudinal internal medical education curriculum that focuses not only on the topics that are on the ACGME Initial Certification Exam, but on aspects of internal medicine that must be mastered to be a successful internist, whether that is a primary care physician, hospitalist, or specialist. Our primary site, HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital, is able to offer significant clinical rotations, while ensuring ample protected time for medical lectures and didactics. The main site for our program is HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital. It is a 221-bed hospital situated in Sanford, FL, which is less than 30 minutes northeast of downtown Orlando. It is a Level II Trauma Center, with a full-service cardiovascular program, and an Inpatient Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Unit. While being a community hospital, the advanced and subspeciality service lines available at the hospital bring with them an academic collegial setting that fosters a commitment to lifelong learning and well-being. The UCF/HCA Florida Healthcare Greater Orlando/Lake Monroe Internal Medicine Residency Program recognizes healthcare providers should be representative of the community they serve and places emphasis on increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion within our program and GME at HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital. We also strive to continually improve the quality of care provided to patients. Therefore, a strong emphasis is placed on quality improvement and patient safety curriculum. Residents will not only analyze practice habits but work on implementing interventions to change practice.
