Our expertly crafted programs are designed to provide resident and fellow physicians with all the experiences and training necessary for professional success.

Curriculum

The majority of your residency training will take place at HCA Florida Largo Hospital, aside from a select few in-patient rotations, ambulatory electives and continuity clinic. The HCA Florida Largo West Hospital campus specializes in behavioral health as well as inpatient rehabilitation.

Our residents complete a four-week rotation at HCA Florida Largo West Hospital campus typically during their intern year. A geriatric medicine outpatient rotation is provided through CW Bill Young Veteran Affairs Hospital located in St. Petersburg, Florida. Ambulatory electives are available at a variety of clinics in the Clearwater/Largo area.

Continuity clinic takes place at Suncoast Internal Medicine Consultants with twice-monthly scheduled clinic days. Our residents adhere to all work hour guidelines as reinforced by the ACGME. Additionally, with our unique scheduling in block templates, our residents are never on call.

Didactic education is provided every weekday with a substantial focus on lectures guided by the American College of Physicians. Monthly Board review is provided by HCA GME and New England Journal of Medicine Knowledge+. Additional conferences include ICU lecture series, Morbidity & Mortality conferences, journal club, ECG lecture series, case presentations, tumor board, Grand Rounds and frequent attending and fellow lectures.

Rotations

Residents complete a 52-week education program with 13 four-week rotation blocks in each year. Work hours vary depending on rotation but adhere to ACGME Work Hour Policies.

Residents do not take call, as we have residents scheduled to cover night shift on hospital medicine and ICU. Schedules are formulated by the Program Director Staff and residents have the ability to prioritize their schedule requests and elective months annually prior to the schedule being created.

Certain electives are graduation requirements and will be built into each resident's schedule within the three years of training. In addition to scheduled days off, residents receive 20 days of paid time off which can be taken for personal needs or vacation.

You may tailor your electives to pursue your interests or fellowship goals to obtain more knowledge and experience.

Additionally, you may request a research block if that is something you are interested in.
