The Psychiatry program at HCA Florida Largo Hospital is a four-year, fully accredited ACGME program that provides trainees with the educational and practical clinical experience that will enable them to deliver superior specialized care to patients.

HCA Florida Largo Hospital’s two campuses provide a unique educational environment. Both campuses combined provide a total of 425 beds in a community-based setting. The Psychiatry service admits about 85 patients per month to two separate psychiatry units with 47 total beds.

The HCA Florida Largo West Hospital campus is a Baker Act Receiving Facility and is home to a six-bed medical behavioral unit. The residency also provides a Consult Service for HCA Florida Largo Hospital's main campus.

The residency is driven by the desire to create strong clinical psychiatrists that excel in the leadership of the biopsychosocial treatment team. To that end, the residents spend the second half of the PGY1 and all of PGY2 in the acute psychiatric inpatient setting.

This experience gives trainees the education required to discern between different therapeutic approaches in an acute care setting, experience in crisis management and experience in stabilizing the patient for successful discharge into the outpatient setting.

Our third-year residents train in the outpatient setting, developing their own panel of patients as well as working in a collaborative environment with therapists in the office. Fourth-year rotations will be electives, including an experience at Bay Pines VA Hospital.

To fulfill our mission of graduating highly skilled and prepared psychiatrists, we have designed a comprehensive curriculum that is continually enhanced by resident and faculty feedback.

Thank you for your interest in our program, and I encourage you to contact us with any questions.

Sincerely,

Kevin Butler, MD
Program Director, Psychiatry
