Rakesh Prashad, MD, FACC, FACP, FSCAI

Board Certified in Interventional Cardiology, Cardiology, Nuclear Cardiology, Internal Medicine, and Endovascular Medicine.
Dr. Prashad completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at the University of Miami, Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. He then completed a fellowship in Clinical Cardiology at the University of Miami/Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Florida, and subsequently an Interventional Cardiology Fellowship, as well as a Heart Failure and Transplantation Fellowship at Tufts University, New England Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. He is board certified in Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology, Nuclear Cardiology, Internal Medicine and Endovascular Medicine.
Dr. Prashad received his medical degree from the University of Florida, College of Medicine in Gainesville, Florida, and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. His clinical interests include the medical management of complex cardiovascular patients, and the performance of interventional procedures.
Dr. Prashad is a Professor at the University of Central Florida, College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine. He is the Director of Cardiovascular Training for Graduate Medical Education in the Departments of Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine at Ocala Health, University of Central Florida College of Medicine.
He remains active locally and nationally and was the president for the Marion County Medical Society. In addition, he has served as an NIH Executive Committee Member for the TACT-2 research trial, ABIM Interventional Cardiology Item-Writing Task Force Member, Chair of the Annual Marion County Poster Symposium, Advisory Board Member-HCA Journal of Medicine, and is a Florida Medical Association Delegate.
Dr. Prashad is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, American College of Physicians and Society of Cardiac Angiography and Interventions. He is the author of numerous scientific publications and is actively engaged in clinical research. His primary interests in teaching and research are acute coronary syndromes, primary prevention, congestive heart failure and vascular interventions.
Dr. Prashad's current and previous appointments at HCA FL Ocala Hospital include: Past-Medical Staff President; Past Medical Staff Vice-President; Credentials Committee; Past-Cardiovascular Quality Committee Chair; Past Cardiovascular Advisory Committee; Past — Utilization Management Committee; Past- Director of Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and Chest Pain Center; as well as having been the Physician Champion for the Acute Coronary Syndrome and Congestive Heart Failure Committees. Dr. Prashad also had the distinction of sitting on the Marion County Board of County Commissioner's EMSA Task Force.
