Program overview

The Family Medicine Residency Program at HCA Florida St. Lucie Hospital is an accredited and rigorous three-year program designed to train the next generation of physicians and physician leaders.

Our interdisciplinary approach to learning fosters excellent opportunities for professional growth, committed mentorship and clinical research. Alongside dedicated attending physicians and enthusiastic colleagues, residents strive for excellence in their training and provide high-quality healthcare in patient-centered environments and community-oriented service.

Program details

Our Family Medicine Residency Program is located on the beautiful Treasure Coast, a great place to live with some of the most beautiful beaches in Florida, great golf courses, great boating and world-class fishing. We have diverse communities with a low cost of living and high quality of life.

About the program

We are located 50 minutes north of Palm Beach, 1.5 hours from Orlando with easy access to the Florida Turnpike, I-95, and West Palm Beach (PBI) International Airport.

Our residents are encouraged and have dedicated time in their schedules to engage in scholarly work, ranging from local and regional presentations, attending National conferences, and publishing scientific manuscripts.

The environment at HCA Florida St. Lucie Hospital is very supportive of residents and it has a robust Wellness Program supported by our Behavioral Health faculty. As the only Family Medicine residency within a 75-mile radius, we have ample opportunities for community participation.

Mentorship is established with faculty based on your interests early in training. Faculty provide advice and guidance throughout training to assist with research, quality improvement, educational scholarship and career development.

We are affiliated with Nova Southeastern University, Florida State University and Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, as well as other medical schools in the area.

Our academic collaborations provide access to library resources, research support, and the opportunity to work with medical students to sharpen their teaching and mentoring skills.

Conference schedule

Our program offers a dynamic and exciting didactic curriculum including: clinical case conferences from specialists, QI and safety conferences, evidence-based medicine, cost-conscious care, board review sessions, hands-on simulation sessions, journal clubs, and the fundamentals of practice management and the business of medicine.

The dedicated research staff helps support resident research, publications, and presentations.

Our residents are encouraged to have dedicated time in their schedules to engage in scholarly work, ranging from local and regional presentations, attending National conferences, and publishing scientific manuscripts.

Wednesday afternoons are dedicated didactic time used for teaching, workshops, presentations, grand rounds, meetings, etc.

About HCA Florida St. Lucie Hospital

HCA Florida St. Lucie Hospital serves the cities of Port St. Lucie, Jensen Beach, and Stuart. Port St. Lucie is the eighth largest city in Florida. St. Lucie Hospital is a 229-bed, Joint Commission Accredited, Top Performing Hospital with a Healthgrades Excellence Award for Patient Safety, and is a certified Primary Stroke and Chest Pain Center.

The hospital offers a full range of acute care services, including rehabilitation, obstetrics, and inpatient and outpatient robotic surgery. Its Orthopedic and Spine Center is considered one of the best in the country for joint replacement.

HCA Florida St. Lucie Hospital is part of HCA Healthcare and has over 350 physicians, more than 60,000 patients per year, and is committed to excellence in GME. The hospital supports our 18 resident family medicine residency and an emergency medicine residency. The family medicine residency program was established in 2012 and is ACGME accredited.

HCA Florida St. Lucie Medical Specialists is a multispecialty group affiliated with HCA, and it houses our family medicine practice. It has several satellite offices, a central lab and diagnostic center, sleep center, and many other resources, which help to take care of our large and diverse patient population. The main building is located across the street from the hospital.
