Program overview
The Psychiatry Residency Program at HCA Florida West Hospital is a four-year, ACGME-accredited residency program with eight categorical positions per year. We are committed to training psychiatric residents who will deliver healthcare as it should be: patient-centered and for the good of all people, no matter their circumstance. The strength of our training program is the tremendous depth and breadth of our clinical care. We provide an academically and clinically rigorous training program in psychiatry. Our dedicated faculty, supported by the significant resources of both HCA Healthcare and University of Central Florida, provide our trainees with the knowledge, clinical judgment, professionalism, and interpersonal skills necessary for a successful career and to develop as leaders in psychiatry. The curriculum is designed to provide a broad clinical exposure in acute and chronic care occurring in both inpatient and outpatient settings. We are also committed to nurturing a robust interest in scientific investigation and evidence-based practice.
Our program aims to:
- 1. Deliver a comprehensive curriculum and an integrated continuum of clinical responsibilities with progressive complexity to develop compassionate ethical and highly competent patient centered psychiatrists with expertise in the management of patients from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Provide supervised clinical experiences across the tri-state hub to help our residents develop the skills necessary to accurately diagnose and treat acute and chronic psychiatric conditions while becoming community-minded, careful thinkers.
- Recruit and train residents with a specific focus on retaining psychiatrists within the Florida Panhandle and the surrounding regional borders to address the critical physician shortage and improve access to care for underserved populations.
- Empower residents with the tools to develop professional relationships and collaboration across the medical community to foster wellness for themselves their colleagues and their patients.
- Establish a strong foundation in evidence-based practice and scientific investigation to develop future leaders in educational community and national psychiatric arenas.
- Graduate highly qualified physicians who possess a commitment to lifelong learning and a desire to teach others while practicing both the science and the art of psychiatric medicine.
Our ultimate goal is to graduate highly qualified physicians who have a burning curiosity to learn, a strong desire to teach others, and a commitment to practice both the science and art of psychiatric medicine.
