Program Overview
We are thrilled to recognize the first two classes of surgery residents in our program. We identified 3 excellent interns from established programs around the nation to transition to Methodist and join us as categorical PGY-2s and we also matched 4 medical students to become our initial PGY-1 class. This pioneering group of talented individuals has set the standard for excellence, dedication, and innovation. As the first cohort, they have embraced the challenges of a rigorous surgical education with resilience and determination, paving the way for future residents to follow. Their commitment to clinical learning, patient care, technical skills, and professional growth is a testament to their passion for surgery.
Methodist Hospital, along with its participating sites, has been named among the 2022 Fortune/Merative 100 Top Hospitals® and distinguished as one of the top teaching facilities in the country. Equipped with state-of-the-art resources and an established teaching faculty, our residents will receive a robust operative experience and education. The clinical and learning environment extend to our participating sites that are within walking distance.
All rotations will incorporate protected time for residents to attend didactics, lectures, and conferences that will enhance their learning environment. Residents can expect to be an integral part of administrative decisions as it pertains to patient safety and quality improvement measures, hospital committee memberships and initiatives, and resident well-being.
It is with our dedicated leadership team of faculty, administrators and multidisciplinary staff that we strive to provide quality care to our growing community. We hope that you strongly consider being part of our Graduate Medical Education family in San Antonio, Texas.
