Welcome from our Program Director

I would like to personally introduce you to the HCA Healthcare – HealthONE Internal Medicine Residency Program and invite you to explore the unique opportunities this program provides to all of our internal medicine residents.

Mission Statement

The Sky Ridge Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency Program’s mission is to develop the next generation of physicians and physician leaders. As a part of HCA Healthcare, we are driven by a single mission: Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life.

This program is designed to offer residents a rewarding, educational environment where residents are provided individualized learning opportunities by faculty and staff who support and sustain one another throughout quality care delivery. Our faculty are committed to ensuring the residents' clinical experience and educational needs are fulfilled while expanding residents’ perspectives to be inclusive of cultures, values, and ideals.

Program Overview

The Internal Medicine Residency Training Program at Sky Ridge Medical Center is an accredited and rigorous three-year program designed to train the next generation of physicians and physician leaders.

Our hands-on approach to learning fosters excellent opportunities for professional growth, committed mentorship and clinical research. Alongside dedicated attending physicians and enthusiastic colleagues, residents strive for excellence in their training and provide high-quality healthcare in patient-centered environments and community-oriented service.

The primary hospital for the residency program is Sky Ridge Medical Center in suburban Lone Tree, CO. This 284-bed hospital opened in 2003 and has maintained its reputation for excellence since day one. The hospital has nearly exclusive individual suite patient rooms.

The hospital consistently receives ‘A’ grades from The Leapfrog Group and CMS 5 star ratings. The facility has been named the top hospital in Colorado along with the People's Choice Award for Best Hospital since 2011.

Sky Ridge Medical Center strives to be at the forefront of technology, with the latest imaging modalities. The residents find this hospital to be extremely welcoming and comfortable. The majority of time during residency is spent here.

Conference Schedule

At Sky Ridge Medical Center, we pride ourselves on our educational keys.

Our faculty and chief residents work very closely to develop a curriculum focused on ACGME core competencies. Examples of educational opportunities within our residencies are listed below.

  • Noon conference three times per week
  • Monthly EKG review led by an Electrophysiologist
  • Monthly chest imaging and Board review led by Pulmonology/Critical Care physicians
  • Procedure curriculum
  • Grand rounds held regularly at the hospital. Each resident is required to present at grand rounds once during their third year.
  • Participation in ACP events including Doctors Dilemma, a statewide internal medicine residency Jeopardy-style competition
  • Monthly Morbidity and Mortality conference
  • Conference funds for one conference per residency, with potential additional funds for further conference travel, if presenting
  • Yearly wilderness didactics

Research

There are many opportunities to be involved in research and other scholarly activity throughout our residency program, and we consider our research program a major strength.

We have a research director dedicated to graduate medical education whose role is to guide and provide support in the area of statistical analysis and research design, public health research interns who assist with data collection and analysis as well as faculty research leaders who mentor residents through the project cycle.

Regardless of your research interests, our faculty and research experts will work and guide you in order to develop and pursue your research interests. What is arguably one of the biggest advantages of doing research at HCA Healthcare, is our access to enterprise-wide databases, which allows us to be able to request data from multiple HCA Healthcare hospitals in order to have datasets big enough for clinically meaningful, cutting edge research.

Accordingly, we encourage our residents to present their research at conferences at the local, state, and national levels and will provide support for them to do so.
