Program overview
The Transitional Year Residency at Grand Strand Medical Center is a one-year, ACGME-accredited program sponsored by Internal Medicine and offering 12 positions annually. As part of a robust graduate medical education presence, we are proud to train alongside residencies in Anesthesiology, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Surgery, as well as fellowships in Endocrinology, Hospice and Palliative Medicine, Surgical Critical Care, and Ultrasound. Through academic affiliations with the University of South Carolina, Mercer University, and Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM), our residents have access to extensive educational resources and strong research opportunities.
Grand Strand is a 403-bed hospital and South Carolina’s busiest trauma center, offering exceptional training in high-volume, high-acuity care. Residents gain exposure to award-winning cardiovascular, orthopedic, and stroke programs, while also enjoying a broad selection of electives both in the hospital and community—ensuring a solid foundation for future specialty training.
Our location in Myrtle Beach—just steps from 60 miles of beautiful coastline—offers more than just scenery. As the 17th fastest-growing city in the nation, it provides a diverse patient population and a unique opportunity to train in a thriving community setting.
With a state-of-the-art Simulation Center and a dedicated team of faculty and mentors, we are committed to delivering outstanding education and preparing residents to excel in the next phase of their careers.
