Dr. Alfredo Tirado, MD

Program Director

Dr. Tirado originated from Puerto Rico, he finished his Medical School and Emergency Medicine Residency Program in the University of Puerto Rico, where he also served as chief resident. Dr. Tirado, served as Associate Professor for the College of Medicine of the University of Central Florida, where he helped develop and implement an Ultrasound curriculum for Medical Students for all four years of education. In 2018, he was offered the opportunity, to once again help start a New EM Residency program, with HCA Healthcare sponsored by USF Morsani College of Medicine, and he currently serves as Program Director for this program. Dr. Tirado is also an active member at AIUM, AAEM, SAEM and ACEP, where he has served in different Committees at the Ultrasound Section such as the EUS reporting guidelines and former Committee Chair and Course Director for the Emergency Ultrasound Management Course (EUMC).


Dr. Katia Lugo, MD

Associate Program Director

Dr. Lugo has an impressive background and a wide range of experience in the field of emergency medicine. Here's a summary of her professional journey and accomplishments. Dr. Lugo attended the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara and later New York Medical College, where she earned her Doctor of Medicine Degree in 2003. She completed her residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Puerto Rico Emergency Medicine Residency Program in 2006, where she also served as the chief resident. Dr. Lugo joined AdventHealth Emergency Medicine Residency Program this program in 2008, initially as clinical faculty. Over the years, she took on various roles, including patient safety director, clerkship director, and faculty champion for the AH Wellness Curriculum initiative. She transitioned to HCA/USF Morsani COM: GME Oak Hill Hospital in January 2021, initially serving as clerkship director and later becoming the Associate Program Director. She is an accomplished speaker at various national and international medical conferences, including WACEM, EMRA, ACOEP, SAEM, and ACEP state meetings. When she is not working, she loves spending time play tennis, golf, paddle boarding, volleyball, go to the beach, go hiking with my friends and dog, travel, white water rafting, snowmobiling, cooking for friends and family, attend sports events, concerts and Broadway shows.


Dr. José A. Rubero, MD

Clerkship Director

Dr. Rubero received his MD from the Universidad Central Del Caribe School of Medicine, in Puerto Rico, where he later designed a medical student curriculum in emergency medicine and was appointed as Professor. He did two residencies: one in Internal Medicine at Cabrini Medical Center/Mt. Sinai Medical School in New York City and a second one in Emergency Medicine Residency Program at Lincoln Medical Center/Cornell University in the Bronx, NY where he was one of the Chief Residents. Dr. Jose Rubero is the Clerkship Director and Educational Director at the HCA Healthcare/USF Morsani College of Medicine GME Emergency Medicine Residency at HCA Oak Hill Hospital in Brooksville, Florida, where he continues improve the quality of the didactics as self-study time from the students, Dr. Rubero designed a clerkship website where the students can review his lectures, watch videos, and connect to other links related in emergency medicine. The website is: www.FloridaEMClerkship.com. Dr.Rubero's goal is to integrate the Emergency Medicine Curriculum as part of the medical schools' curriculum. His interests are disaster relief, cardiology, pulmonary, critical care and EMS.


Dr. Edgar Miranda, MD

Ultrasound Director

Dr. Miranda attended University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, Doctor in Medicine Magna Cum Laude, where he completed residency in 2014. Post graduate training was completed at AdventHealth East Orlando in Fellowship Point of Care Ultrasound. Dr. Miranda is an ABEM Board Certified. He also has served as Administrative Chief Resident, University of Puerto Rico, School of Medicine from 2016 – 2017. Dr. Miranda now serves has our Ultrasound Director, HCA/Oak Hill Hospital.


Dr. Callee Heywood, DO

Core Faculty

Dr. Callee Heywood was born and raised in a small town in Alberta, Canada. She came to the United States for undergrad, fell in love and stayed to complete her emergency medicine training in Long Island, NY. Followed by an Ultrasound and Wilderness Medicine Fellowship. She loves spending time outdoors, playing ice hockey, running, golfing and triathlons. When she is not at work, she loves spending time with her spouse and dog, or training for the next big race.


Dr. Dalia Alwasiyah, MD

Core Faculty

Dr. Alwasiyah is a foreign medical graduate. She completed her bachelor's in medicine and bachelor's in surgery at King Abdulaziz University, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. She then went on to pursue a career in General Surgery. After two years, she decided that she wanted to be able to help anyone, anywhere and did not want to limit her skills to an operating room. Dr.Alwasiyah went on to completed her Emergency Medicine residency at Emory, in Atlanta, Georgia. Following her completion in a fellowship in Medical Toxicology at Carolina's Medical Center (currently Atrium Health) in Charlotte, North Carolina. Outside of her career, Dr. Alwasiyah loves to travel, and SCUBA dive.
