Welcome from our Program Director
Welcome to HCA Florida St. Petersburg Hospital Graduate Medical Education Family Medicine Program!
We are happy that you are considering our program as a potential site to continue your medical training. Currently, we offer the following ACGME-approved postgraduate program: Family Medicine Residency PGY1, PGY2 and PGY3.
Program overview
The Family Medicine Residency Program at HCA Florida St. Petersburg Hospital is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.
The residency program utilizes a variety of teaching methods and settings to maximize the learning experience of the resident. Each curriculum area combines rotations, conferences and experience to provide the resident with a comprehensive training program.
The Family Medicine Residency program is designed to teach and train residents to enter into the field of Family Medicine, prepare them for board certification and provide them with the knowledge they will need to both care for patients in the primary care office arena and also in the environs of the hospital.
It is our feeling that for a resident to be properly trained in this era, they are best served by being capable of functioning in the hospital environment, but with a strong primary care base during the course of training.
We provide this with excellent ongoing, longitudinal clinic experience during the duration of the Family Medicine Residency program at HCA Florida St. Petersburg Family Care and Suncoast Family Medical Associates.

Program details
About the program
Our Program exists for two reasons: To provide superior education and training for our residents; and, to give our patients the best possible medical care. We prepare our residents to succeed in the practice locations they will eventually choose and to be ready for leadership roles in their communities. We are proud of our achievements, the quality of care, and the many important services and educational programs we provide to the people of our community.
Our program also puts an emphasis on didactic learning. CME lectures are also offered on-site on a regular basis. In addition, our interns and residents participate in various hospital-based committees such as the Cancer Committee Tumor Board.
We strongly believe in promoting the well-being of our trainees. Psychological, emotional and physical well-being are critical in the development of the competent, caring and resilient physician. Self-care is an important component of professionalism; it is also a skill that must be learned and nurtured in the context of other aspects of the learning environment.
We believe the key to our success is the commitment of our faculty and staff to excellence in education and patient care. Our faculty members devote substantial time to enhancing their own teaching skills and are dedicated to helping our interns and residents grow professionally and personally into fine physicians. They are eager to share their knowledge and experience with you.
