Mission statement
The Medical City Fort Worth Gastroenterology Fellowship Program’s mission is to develop the next generation of physicians and physician leaders. As a part of HCA Healthcare, we are driven by a single mission: Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life.
This program is designed to offer residents a rewarding, educational environment where residents are provided individualized learning opportunities by faculty and staff who support and sustain one another throughout quality care delivery. Our faculty are committed to ensuring the residents' clinical experience and educational needs are fulfilled while expanding residents’ perspectives to be inclusive of cultures, values, and ideals.
Program overview
The Gastroenterology Fellowship at Medical City Fort Worth is designed to provide rigorous training in clinical gastroenterology. Fellows receive a comprehensive cognitive and procedural clinical education in both inpatient and outpatient settings that will enable them to become proficient and professional gastroenterologists.
The three-year program is ACGME-accredited for two positions each academic year. Residents may be accepted into the program only after successfully completing three years of general internal medicine residency training. Working hours are generally 7:00am – 7:00pm, and fellows receive a total of 20 days of paid time off which can be used for vacation, personal needs, and holidays.
The curriculum encompasses didactics which are modeled after the core competencies including a lecture series, conferences, journal clubs, and daily academic rounds round out the fellows’ clinical learning.
The program is designed to provide educational and experiential input from a broad range of specialty providers at Medical City Fort Worth as well as affiliate institutions. Continuity outpatient clinic training is provided at the base teaching site as well as at affiliate sites.
Fellows also participate in a weekly outpatient clinic experience. Training in endoscopic procedures is designed to advance along with the fellow’s progression in training. Fellows receive exposure to patients across the disease and age spectrums.
