Our program, which welcomed its first class in July 2024, is fully accredited by the ACGME with no citations. It offers an exceptional educational experience to train future leaders in critical care medicine.

Welcome to the Surgical Critical Care Fellowship Program at Medical City Plano, Plano, TX
Thank you for your interest in our program! At Medical City Plano, we offer a one-year Surgical Critical Care Fellowship designed to provide an immersive and enriching clinical experience. Our mission is to equip future surgical intensivists with the expertise and judgment necessary to deliver safe, high-quality critical care and to excel in the Surgical Critical Care Certifying Examination administered by the American Board of Surgery. Eligible applicants must have completed residency training in their primary specialty and hold board-eligible status.
The fellowship fosters a dynamic environment where advanced education thrives. With fully board-certified faculty in critical care, fellows receive unparalleled opportunities to deepen their knowledge and cultivate academic and professional growth.
Program highlights include:
- Comprehensive Clinical Training: Hands-on experience with eight months in the surgical ICU and four months of electives tailored to individual career aspirations.
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Training alongside diverse healthcare teams during daily multidisciplinary rounds.
- Research and Professional Development: Opportunities to participate in research, quality improvement initiatives, and teaching activities that prepare fellows for leadership roles in critical care.

Fellows benefit from exposure to a wide range of critically ill patients, including those requiring complex trauma and surgical care. Our program emphasizes developing strong clinical judgment and procedural skills, ensuring that graduates are prepared to excel in academic or community-based critical care settings.

Curriculum highlights
Our curriculum is designed to complement fellows' rotations. Fellows will have protected educational time to attend weekly didactic conferences.
