About our program

Program structure:

We accept five residents per year for a total number of 20 residents.

Our rotation schedule allows for all required rotations, exposure to necessary procedures and includes a well-rounded didactic schedule with daily noon lectures, cases conferences, IR SIM labs and physics lectures. Monthly journal clubs, tumor boards and Grand Rounds are included in our schedule as well. Resident research projects are highly encouraged, and there are large preexisting datasets and diverse imaging studies underway, where residents can assist in facilitating publications. This imaging research has strong support from HCA Healthcare statisticians, technical writers and faculty mentors.

Our first year diagnostic radiology residents take day call one weekend a month – including one holiday per year. Second year residents will begin overnight call, which is critical for radiology training and resident confidence. We support moonlighting in the 3rd and 4th years and have identified opportunities for senior residents. We also support a balanced lifestyle with ample vacation and post call days.

We are currently pursuing ESIR certification, with opportunities for residents to complete the 11 months of required IR rotations and the ICU rotation. The IR experience in our program is exceptional, with first year residents adept at a wide variety of procedures.

Lack of fellows ensures dedicated teaching and direct exposure to all aspects of radiology, tailored to each resident’s level of experience. More senior residents will be offered electives to tailor their interests.

All the necessary equipment, such as IR glasses, lead aprons, thyroid protectors, laptops/cell phones, and electronic resources are provided. We have a voluminous teaching file of lectures, videos, books and a variety of applications. Our GME Reading Room includes 8 PACS dedicated for radiology resident use with plans for expansion.

Radiology residents belong to a number of committees which provide leadership skills and exposure to non-clinical decision-making.
