Thank you for considering the Sunrise Health Graduate Medical Education Consortium Transitional Year Program based at MountainView Hospital!
The program is supported by the HCA GME community and our ACGME-accredited programs in Internal Medicine and General Surgery through the Sunrise Health Graduate Medical Education Consortium.
About our program
Applicants will be considered on an individual basis; however, the following requirements must be met:
- U.S. citizens or individuals with permanent resident status (green card); we do not sponsor visas.
- Applicants must successfully complete USMLE Step 1 or COMLEX Level 1 before an interview offer can be extended.
- Step 2CK, Step 2CS or COMLEX Level 2CE and Level 2PE must be successfully completed prior to ranking.
- The score threshold for USMLE is 230; for COMLEX is 550; applications will be reviewed for individual merit.
- Prefer no more than 2 years since completion of medical school to the anticipated start of the residency
- Any breaks in education or work history must be explained.
- Applicants must be eligible for a residency training license in the State of Nevada.
- Applicants not meeting the above criteria will be reviewed for individual merit.
- Applicants must be processed through a mandatory background check.
Mission statement
The Mountain View Transitional Year program’s mission is to develop the next generation of physicians and physician leaders. As a part of HCA Healthcare, we are driven by a single mission: Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life.
This program is designed to offer residents a rewarding, educational environment where residents are provided individualized learning opportunities by faculty and staff who support and sustain one another throughout quality care delivery. Our faculty are committed to ensuring the residents clinical experience and educational needs are fulfilled while expanding residents’ perspectives to be inclusive of cultures, values and ideals.
Program overview
Residents will have the opportunity to work in an academic environment where they will rotate in our ACGME-accredited programs in Internal Medicine and General Surgery, with all rotations occurring on-site at MountainView.
Transitional Year resident rotations will include the following:
- 28 weeks (7 blocks) of Fundamental Clinical Skills (FCS) rotations, including:
- Internal Medicine (including ICU)
- General Surgery
- 4 weeks (1 block) of Emergency Medicine
- 4 weeks (1 block) of Ambulatory Care (Internal Medicine, OB/GYN, Surgery, or a blend of clinical settings to optimize the educational experience)
- 8 weeks (2 blocks) of Elective rotations (including Radiology, Anesthesiology, PM&R, Dermatology, Neurology, and Ophthalmology)
Our curriculum is designed to maximize the educational experience for each resident in concert with each individual’s career goals.
Transitional Year residents will attend scheduled didactic and educational activities with direct supervision from our sponsoring programs in Internal Medicine and General Surgery.
