About our program

HCA Healthcare Swedish Medical Center, a nationally accredited Level I trauma center, is located in the south metro Denver area and has been serving the community for more than 110 years. With 408 licensed beds, Annually, Swedish treats and cares for more than 200,000 patients. The team consists of 2,000 employees, 500 volunteers, and more than 1,800 physicians.

HCA HealthONE Swedish Medical Center is recognized by the joint commission as a comprehensive stroke center. It is the first hospital in Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region to receive this distinction. Swedish provides the fastest treatment times in the country for stroke, including an average of 17 minutes door-to-needle times for IV alteplase, and an average of 61 minutes door to recanalization time for interventional radiology. HCA HealthONE Swedish Medical Center is the leading referral center for neurotrauma and comprehensive stroke care in the metropolitan Denver area. In addition, Swedish supports an AirLife Stroke Transportation Team, the first such team in the nation. In addition to comprehensive neurological team-based care, Swedish also offers treatment in the fields of oncology, emergency services, cardiology, orthopedics, and trauma.

Fellows receive a well-rounded education in the HCA HealthONE Swedish Medical Center Vascular Neurology Fellowship Program, and have the opportunity to grow into competent physicians in this field. All fellows are supervised by licensed and board-certified faculty physicians. The clinical and educational resources offered to our fellows are of the highest standards and support our physicians to provide optimal patient care. There are no shortages of opportunities and resources for our fellows in the Vascular Neurology Program. These resources include CTA, PET, Perfusion/Diffusion MRI, CT, interventional neuroradiology, and occupational therapy, along with many others.
