We appreciate your interest in the HCA Houston Healthcare/University of Houston (Clear Lake) General Surgery Program!

Situated across the Houston-Galveston Metropolitan area, our general surgery residency program offers a truly distinctive array of experiences for surgical trainees. Our program is on an upward trajectory, with openings for five residents in each incoming class. We not only provide exceptional educational and hands-on training but also encourage residents to pursue their unique paths in leadership, research, or community engagement. Our residents will have the opportunity to rotate through multiple hospitals and outpatient surgery centers, collaborating seamlessly as a team at each facility under the guidance of dedicated attending staff.

Our primary objective is to offer an unparalleled platform for ambitious and driven individuals to acquire the skills, knowledge, clinical expertise, and experience necessary to become future leaders in the field of surgery. As a member of our program, you will play a pivotal role in the establishment of a brand-new medical school at the University of Houston College of Medicine. Additionally, you'll be part of the HCA network, the largest sponsor of Graduate Medical Education in the nation, with more than 270 programs and 4,000 residents and fellows in training.

Our residents benefit from exceptional clinical training at HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake and our affiliated training sites, including Bay Area Surgicare Center, Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital, Extant Healthcare Clear Lake, Texas Oncology – Webster, and Surgical Specialists of Clear Lake. These rotations expose residents to various modes of practice they may choose to pursue in their careers. Our dedicated attending staff are committed to education and are determined to nurture the next generation of talented surgeons, whether in general surgery or sub-specialties. All of our teaching faculty are highly qualified and extensively trained in their respective fields, offering exposure and experience in cutting-edge surgical innovations, while maintaining expertise in the fundamentals of general surgery. We firmly believe that the best surgical education occurs in the operating room, and our residents have the opportunity to perform surgeries early and frequently.

We sincerely thank you for considering our program, and we look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,
Brian Brewer, MD
