Program overview

Doctors Hospital of Augusta is a 350-plus-bed facility located in Augusta, GA. The Emergency Department has 40+ beds and a fast-track waiting room, treating over 73,000+ patients yearly. We are excited about opening our free-standing ER in 2025 to increase the educational opportunities for our residents further.

Residents will be allocated designated time for didactic instruction each week, including a night off prior to the didactic day to enhance learner engagement. The didactic sessions will feature lectures delivered by faculty members, community stakeholders, and experts in their respective fields. Additionally, the program will incorporate multidisciplinary rounds and grand rounds led by national speakers. Furthermore, residents will have hands-on access to our state-of-the-art Simulation Center. Each academic year, residents will have the opportunity to complete a one-month rotation at Savannah Memorial Children's Hospital, situated in Savannah, one of the most picturesque historic cities in the United States.

Additionally, we maintain esteemed academic affiliations with Mercer School of Medicine, Savannah Memorial Hospital, and the Joseph M. Still Burn Center, enriching our educational framework and collaborative opportunities.

Frequently asked questions

Applications for the following year's class are accepted beginning in mid-September. Our programs only accept electronic applications through ERAS (the Electronic Residency Application Service). The required documents for an application are the same as those for ERAS (two letters of recommendation, the Dean's letter, formal transcripts, USMLE/COMLEX transcripts, and a personal statement). We want at least one of the letters to be from a physician in the specialty you are applying for.
No minimum scores are required; however, all applicants must have passed USMLE/COMLEX1 and report their USMLE/COMLEX2 status by the time they are considered for interviews.
The Emergency Medicine program has been approved for 24 total residents (8 residents per class)
