The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) mandates that 28 weeks of a Transitional Year Resident's training be devoted to a discipline that offers fundamental clinical skills. These disciplines include emergency medicine, family practice, internal medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, pediatrics, or surgery.
Our program meets these requirements through the following rotations: ICU, Emergency Department, Surgery and Internal Medicine.
The Transitional Year Residency Program is structured into thirteen blocks, designed to provide residents with a comprehensive experience in general medicine, both in inpatient and ambulatory settings. Residents are integrated into core rotations and electives alongside internal medicine categorical residents.
Rotation Breakdown:
- 3 Blocks of Internal Medicine Floors
- 1 Block of ICU
- 1 Block of Emergency Medicine
- 1 Block of Night Float (split into 2 Two-week rotations)
- 1 Block of Research/Quality Improvement (split into 2 two-week rotations)
