Welcome from our program director

Welcome to the HCA Florida Healthcare/Lawnwood Hospital Emergency Medicine Residency Program! It is with great excitement and pride that I introduce you to our new residency training program, where innovation, compassion, and excellence in emergency care form the foundation of everything we do.
Our vision is to train the next generation of emergency physicians to lead with clinical skill, critical thinking, and a deep commitment to serving patients during their most vulnerable moments. Whether it's managing a trauma in the resuscitation bay, coordinating care for a complex medical patient, or providing reassurance to a worried parent — we believe every encounter in the emergency department is an opportunity to make a difference.
As a new program, we are uniquely positioned to shape a modern and dynamic educational experience. Our curriculum is grounded in the Model of Clinical Practice of Emergency Medicine, with a strong emphasis on simulation, bedside teaching, interdisciplinary collaboration, and patient-centered communication. We are also committed to fostering professional growth through individualized mentorship, wellness initiatives, and opportunities in research, advocacy, and medical education.
Our faculty is dedicated to creating a culture of curiosity, inclusivity, and continuous improvement. Here, you won't just be a resident — you'll be a vital member of a team helping to build a program that will shape the future of emergency medicine training.
If you're looking for a place where you will be challenged, supported, and inspired to become the emergency physician you aspire to be — we invite you to learn more about us.

About our program
The HCA Florida Healthcare/Lawnwood Hospital Emergency Medicine Residency Program aims to create a dynamic and supportive learning environment for residents with the goal of equipping residents with the necessary skills to excel in emergency medicine and contribute to a culture of patient-centered care within the Emergency Department (ED).
The residents will play a crucial role within interprofessional teams across a variety of clinical settings, specifically within the ED, as this setting relies upon skilled resuscitation teams and effective and clear communication. By fostering a culture of open communication, collaboration, and mutual respect, emergency medicine residents can significantly improve patient care during admissions, transfers, and discharges. The residents will work alongside an interprofessional team of healthcare providers to assess patients quickly and accurately, utilizing shared protocols and communication tools.
Simulated scenarios will allow residents to practice communication skills in high-pressure situations, honing their ability to relay information and assert themselves within the interprofessional team dynamic. Additionally, the residents will participate in interdisciplinary discharge planning meetings, learning to adjust discharge plans to accommodate individual patient needs and circumstances. This will foster communication with social workers, pharmacists, and other team members, as well as emphasize patient autonomy and promote shared responsibility for post-discharge outcomes.
