Welcome from our Program Director
Thank you for your interest in the Internal Medicine Residency Training Program at HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital.
Mission Statement
The HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program's mission is to develop the next generation of physicians and physician leaders.
As a part of HCA Healthcare, we are driven by a single mission: Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life.
This program is designed to offer residents a rewarding, educational environment where physicians are provided individualized learning opportunities by faculty and staff who support and sustain one another throughout quality care delivery. Our faculty are committed to ensuring residents' clinical experience and educational needs are fulfilled while expanding physicians' perspectives to be inclusive of cultures, values and ideals.
Program Overview
The Internal Medicine Residency Training Program at HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital is an accredited three-year program designed to train the next generation of physicians and physician leaders. By joining our residency, you will be part of the exciting process of building a newer program and a culture of excellence in Graduate Medical Education. In this effort, you will join physicians from our General Surgery Residency Program, Transitional Year Program, the Emergency Medicine Residency Program and, over the next couple of years, several additional programs in a variety of specialties.
Our residency is a thriving part of the Graduate Medical Education programs at HCA Healthcare's East Florida Division (EFD). Our GME training comprises over 40 programs and over 600 residents and fellows who benefit from the expertise and resources that our network and EFD make available to each of its learners.
We serve a diverse patient population with a broad range of pathology. Our medical professionals always strive to encourage academic and administrative excellence during our ambitious, day-to-day operations. We are excited that you will join our family during this moment for our young program and for your part in our growth for years to come.
Our Program Director and Staff
Our team is comprised of skilled experts with profound experience and knowledge from which residents can benefit.

Conference Schedule
Noon Conference
HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program offers daily Noon Conferences designed to provide a comprehensive review of high-yield topics seen in the clinical setting. These sessions are a mix of resident run sessions - with the support of faculty, such as senior talks and professor rounds – case review, faculty-led sessions as well as interactive team-based-learning, morbidity and mortality, and journal club. This is protected time for academics and free from clinical duties. Our goal is to provide our residents with resources and knowledge to be successful in both their rotations and the board exams.
Journal Club
Journal Club is held monthly during Noon Conference. This is an established academic exercise in the residency training curriculum to obtain critical appraisal skills, update knowledge on current literature and enhance proficiency in clinical practice.
Supplementary Learning Venues
Whiteboard
During our inpatient rotations, the PGY-3 residents will be responsible for organizing and providing a teaching session to their team, in addition to faculty support for each session. These sessions will focus on topics that derived from same day encounters and are designed to enrich their inpatient educational experience.
Board Review
Board review sessions organized by HCA are held the third Thursday of every month. A high yield topic for American Board of Internal Medicine boards is discussed and followed by questions. In addition to the HCA-led board review sessions, our faculty also hold program-led board review sessions throughout the academic year.
Simulation
Simulation is held monthly. Simulation sessions are led by our programs Simulation Champions, Dr. Angad Deengar and Dr. Pedram Rad. Sessions will include skills labs, case-based scenarios, and bedside procedures. Semi-annually, we have point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) workshops led by ultrasound certified faculty. HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital is currently constructing a state-of-the-art simulation center with a projected opening in late 2025.
Wellness Committee
Wellness is an important focus in our program. Our program has a resident-led wellness committee overseen by our Faculty Wellness Champion. The wellness committee works with our residents to coordinate activities that support our resident’s well-being. Some activities have included bowling, step-challenges and movies.
Resident Council
The Resident Council consists of 2 peer-selected residents from each PGY class that meet weekly or bi-weekly to discuss topics that are brought forth by the residents. This information is then relayed to the Program Director for review and advisement. Each resident council meeting also has chief resident attendance to assist with updates and questions.
Research & Scholarly Activity
Our faculty collaborates and supports our residents with research and scholarly activities. Our program is also supported by a research coordinator and team who provide many resources for our residents.
