Program overview

HCA Florida Healthcare/Lawnwood Hospital Transitional Year Residency Program's mission is to prepare transitional year residents by providing a broad-based curriculum with a strong foundation of fundamental clinical education to prepare the transitional year residents for the next steps in their careers. Transitional Year residents will undergo a curriculum that will allow then to pursue a career in their chosen specialty as well as research or administration. The transitional year faculty are committed to developing residents professionally to serve the surrounding community and will role model professional behavior. Residents will be integrated into the care teams and will learn how to be effective and contributing members of the healthcare team, communicating effectively, expanding their medical knowledge and developing professionally.

The program is committed to providing an enriching education to all transitional year residents. As part of HCA Healthcare, the program is aligned with a single mission: "Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life."

Lawnwood's Hospital Transitional Year Residency Program aims are to:

  • Provide a broad-based curriculum in diverse clinical disciplines to prepare transitional year residents for their chosen career path.
  • Create and establish a mentorship relationship with residents, to provide guidance to residents who have chosen and who have yet to choose the next steps in their careers.
  • Promote life-long learning, with a commitment to self-improvement and self-reflection.
  • Develop physicians who will be leaders, in the next phase of their careers, and who are driven by excellence in quality of care, adaptability, and professionalism.

Yes, we consider J-1 Visa applicants who have an ECFMG certification (H-1B, EAD are not accepted).
Our Residency Training Program partners with Whole Family Health Center which is a comprehensive outpatient center, it has two locations at Ft. Pierce and Vero Beach.
Equipment (mobile device/laptop), licensure (limited), ACLS/BLS certification and certification required by the hospital, lab coats, daily meal allowance while working, orientation stipend, and meal stipend.
