Mission Statement
The HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital General Surgery Residency Program’s mission is to develop the next generation of physicians and physician leaders.
As a part of HCA Healthcare, we are driven by a single mission: Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life.
This program is designed to offer residents a rewarding, educational environment where residents are provided individualized learning opportunities by faculty and staff who support and sustain one another throughout quality care delivery. Our faculty are committed to ensuring the residents' clinical experience and educational needs are fulfilled while expanding residents' perspectives to be inclusive of cultures, values and ideals.
Program Overview
The general surgery residency program is a new 5-year accredited program centered at HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital located in Fort Pierce, FL. Accepting three categorical residents per year, we provide the breadth of not only general surgery but also all surgical sub-specialties. Modern surgical education is a collegial and multidisciplinary effort dependent on clinical skills, surgical skills, knowledge-based learning, and problem-based competencies. Because of this, we aim to provide the surgical residents within our training program the skills necessary to be both well rounded clinicians and surgeons. Focusing on personalized mentorship, we instruct our residents with surgical skills and knowledge through didactic conferences, core rotations, and skills labs. More than that, though, we train our residents to be self-directed learners who will have a well-developed skill set that allows them lifelong learning well beyond their years in residency with us. Once finished with your residency at HCA Florida Lawnwood, you will be able to tackle any changes in the ever-evolving surgical climate with alacrity.
