Program Curriculum

The general surgery program is a five-year program. A sample block schedule for each year is provided below.

PGY1

  • Trauma Rotation: 2 months
  • Vascular Surgery Rotation: 2 months
  • Pediatric Surgery Rotation: 2 months
  • Emergency General Surgery Rotation: 2 months
  • Cardiothoracic Surgery Rotation: 1 month
  • Plastic Surgery Rotation: 1 month
  • Acute Care Surgery Rotation: 1 month
  • Night Float Rotation: 1 month

PGY2

  • Emergency General Surgery Rotation: 2 months
  • Trauma Rotation: 2 months
  • Surgical ICU Rotation: 2 months
  • Research Rotation: 1 month
  • Acute Care Surgery Rotation: 1 month
  • Plastic Surgery Rotation: 1 month
  • Surgical Oncology Rotation: 1 month
  • Colorectal Surgery Rotation: 1 month
  • Minimally Invasive Surgery Rotation: 1 month

PGY3

  • Night Float Rotation: 2 months
  • Minimally Invasive Surgery Rotation: 2 months
  • Emergency General Surgery Rotation: 2 months
  • Thoracic Surgery Rotation: 1 month
  • Surgical ICU Rotation: 1 month
  • Transplant Surgery Rotation: 1 month
  • Colon and Rectal Surgery Rotation: 1 month
  • Vascular Surgery Rotation: 1 month
  • Surgical Oncology Rotation: 1 month

PGY4

  • Breast/Endocrine Surgery Rotation: 3 months
  • Vascular Surgery Rotation: 2 months
  • Trauma Rotation: 2 months
  • Pediatric Surgery Rotation: 1 month
  • Emergency General Surgery Rotation: 1 month
  • Hepatobiliary/Pancreatic Surgery Rotation: 1 month
  • Colon and Rectal Surgery Rotation: 1 month

PGY5

  • Surgical Oncology Rotation: 3 months
  • Vascular Surgery Rotation: 3 months
  • Emergency General Surgery Rotation: 2 months
  • Trauma Rotation: 2 months
  • Private Practice General Surgery Rotation: 2 months
