Welcome to the University of Central Florida (UCF) General Surgery Residency Program at Ocala Health. Ocala Regional Medical Center is one of the three main teaching hospitals for the UCF residency programs. At our program, you will find a unique experience that hybridizes a university program that takes place in a community setting with plenty of opportunities to operate, creating the best of both worlds.

Ocala Regional Medical Center is one of the three main teaching hospitals for the UCF residency programs. In addition, Ocala Regional Medical Center is a Level II Trauma Center that will expose you to a wide variety of trauma and general surgery.

Residents are encouraged to engage in research and support is provided with our team of statisticians.

Highlights include a robotic surgery training curriculum including a simulation lab featuring the Da Vinci robot to practice on. You will have unique experiences and opportunities to travel and learn from master surgeons from Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, Tampa and Gainesville, with provided housing.

As a new program on the rise, our past graduates have gone on to pursue fellowships at institutions such as Boston University, University of Texas, Rush University, and Miami Cancer Institute.

Our program is designed to produce competent and highly skilled surgeons capable of independent practice after residency training as well as the foundation for subspecialty training. Case volume for each chief resident was well over 1,500 cases upon graduation.

The program has many unique features that will contribute to the next generation of surgical leaders, including the skill and experience of master surgeons who are eager to train and mentor young surgeons for lifelong careers. I invite you to take a look and get to know our program better.

Sincerely,

Darwin Ang, MD, PhD, MPH
