Welcome letter
Welcome to LewisGale Medical Center, and congratulations on nearing the completion of your primary medical education. As you consider your options for residency training, we are excited to introduce you to our facility and our staff. Located in the town of Salem, Virginia within the Blue Ridge Mountains, our Emergency Department is a referral center for a large part of Southwest Virginia. Featuring accredited stroke and chest pain programs as well as a growing trauma service, LewisGale provides superior care for the citizens of the Roanoke Valley as well as affording the volume and diversity of patients necessary to prepare you to practice Emergency Medicine in any setting your career leads.
During your training, the cities of Roanoke and Salem, will become your home. Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the region offers an array of activities and venues to spend your free time. For the outdoor enthusiast, the Blue Ridge Parkway and Appalachian Trail run within 15 minutes of the hospital, while the surrounding mountains and trails have allowed the region to become one of the best locations for mountain biking on the East Coast and have hosted an assortment of sporting events. We feel that this is essential to contributing to the overall wellness of our residents and physicians.
We truly believe that we have the facilities, the staff, and the environment to provide a superior educational experience; one that will prepare you to practice Emergency Medicine in any setting you desire. Here you will have input in the direction of our program and will help shape the residency to reflect our values and standards. This is why many of our staff and residents have chosen to make this their permanent home, and we appreciate your considering our residency family for your own education.
