Welcome from our Program Director
Thank you for your interest in the Gastroenterology Fellowship at HCA Healthcare LewisGale Medical Center, initially accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) in 2022, our fellowship is a three-year training program.
The overall educational goals are to provide the fellows with basic and advanced biochemistry, physiology and pathophysiology.
These provide the basis for understanding gastroenterology, the opportunity to accumulate a critical mass of fundamental information and practical approaches for the diagnosis, management and prevention of Gastroenterology disorders, and to acquire the technical and practical skills that are required by a consultant in gastroenterology.
HCA Healthcare LewisGale Medical Center offers a variety of inpatient, outpatient and rehabilitation programs and services. Newly designated as a Level II Trauma Center with 506 licensed beds, they offer full-service acute care with over 500 physicians on staff representing over 30 specialties and 1500 employees.

Program overview

The HCA Healthcare LewisGale Medical Center Gastroenterology Fellowship Program's core purpose is to train the next generation of physicians who are leaders in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of Gastrointestinal and Hepatic diseases through exceptional fellowship training. Our program will provide fellows with diverse and complex clinical exposure, showing the depth and breadth of clinical care in a variety of settings. We strive to prepare fellows who possess the diverse skills suitable for careers in clinical care, medical education, clinical research, and medical administration, as well as combinations of these. In addition to the fellows' clinical exposure, the program will foster a research environment, strengthening the medical knowledge and innovative thinking and decision-making skills for fellows and faculty members. We expect all graduates to exemplify the principles of our program and its goals as they advance to independent practice and perpetuation of these ideals.

Salary and benefits
The following salaries are for academic year 2023-2024 and may differ from future years' salaries:
- PGY 4: $64,438.00
- PGY 5: $67,330.00
- PGY 6: $70,366.00
$950.00 for on-call meals will be allotted to each resident each academic year.
New residents and fellows receive up to $1,000.00 for orientation (if it takes place before the official employment date).
