We are excited that you are interested in pursuing a career as a family physician and that you are interested in finding out how training in our residency program can prepare you for such a career! We are a legacy residency program, currently into our 52nd year of training family medicine residents. The program includes a dynamic and diverse faculty, cognitively challenging complex patient population, a supportive sponsoring institution, and experienced clinic personnel. We believe in training primary care physicians to provide competent and comprehensive services to a patient population with complex comorbidites, providing them with outpatient procedural services and to function effectively as an integral part of a larger health care team.
Research Family Medicine Residency Program in the heart of Kansas City is a community hospital-based training program. Research Medical Center (RMC) is a 590-bed tertiary care hospital in the urban core. As the only primary care residency (the other being orthopedics), our residents have access to excellent teaching provided by all specialists, as well as family physicians who practice and teach the full scope of family medicine. Hospital consultants are readily available for both patient care as well as bedside teaching.
Our residency prides itself on offering an excellent academic curriculum. In addition to a strong core curriculum mostly based at our sponsoring hospital, RMC, we also offer optional tracks in osteopathic manipulative medicine, community medicine, hospitalist medicine and integrative medicine to residents who may want to pursue additional training in their PGY-2 and PGY-3 years. The curriculum is also bolstered by the presence of numerous electives including Point Of Care Ultrasound Training (POCUS).
Congratulations on your interest in family medicine – we are excited to share our passion with you! And we look forward to learning more about you!
