Welcome to St. David’s Internal Medicine Residency Program

This overview of the rotation curriculum is designed to help you understand the structure of our training program and give you information that may guide your application decision. Our goal is to match applicants who want to train in Austin in a large community hospital setting and who value open, ongoing communication between residents and program leadership.

Yearly Rotations

Our academic year is divided into 4 +1-week blocks, with all rotations beginning on Monday morning shift.

The schedule is structured on “X+Y” model.

PGY-1

  • Inpatient Wards: 14 weeks
  • Night Float: 4 weeks
  • ICU– 4 weeks
  • Cardiology: 4 weeks
  • Infectious Disease: 4 weeks
  • Nephrology: 4 weeks
  • Hem & Onc: 4 weeks
  • IM Continuity Clinic: 10 weeks
  • Elective: 4 weeks

PGY-2

  • Inpatient Wards – 12/14 weeks
  • Night Float – 4 weeks
  • ICU – 4 weeks
  • Pulmonology– 4 weeks
  • Emergency Medicine – 4 weeks
  • GI– 4 weeks
  • Neuro/Rheum– 4 weeks
  • Hospice and Palliative Medicine – 2 Weeks
  • Elective– 4 Weeks
  • IM Continuity Clinic – 10 weeks

PGY-3

  • Inpatient Wards – 8 weeks
  • MICU Night Float – 4 weeks
  • ICU – 4 weeks
  • Cardiology– 4 weeks
  • Ambulatory Rotation – 4 weeks
  • Geriatrics/Endocrinology – 4 weeks
  •  • Elective– 14 weeks
  • • IM Continuity Clinic – 10 weeks
