HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital’s anesthesiology residency program is an accredited ACGME advanced program. We are part of the HCA Healthcare/University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine. Our diverse and close-knit residency program works together inside and outside of the operating room, creating a positive learning environment. We focus on patient safety, professionalism, and collaboration. Our residents are enthusiastic, highly motivated, and engaged, and our faculty cares deeply about the success of our trainees. Our residents have published research in the world’s top anesthesiology journals, presented at national anesthesia meetings, and contributed to quality improvement in our hospital system. Our recent graduates have a 100 percent Advanced Exam Board pass rate, exemplifying the quality education and training that they have received in our residency program.

During the first training year, residents will learn how to provide safe anesthesia for a range of surgical cases that will progress to more advanced cases and procedures as their training evolves. Our range of surgical cases include general, urology, vascular, obstetrics, ENT, neuro, transplant, orthopedics, and cardiothoracic surgeries. We have a very busy orthopedic and acute pain service, where residents will have ample opportunity to become proficient in spinals and a wide range of regional anesthetic blocks.

Other training sites include:

  • HCA Florida Largo Medical Center (advanced heart failure and transplant center)
  • HCA FL Brandon Hospital (high risk obstetrics facility)
  • HCA FL Bayonet Point Hospital (Level II trauma center and stroke center)
  • Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital (Ranked in multiple specialties by U.S. News & World Report)
  • Nemour’s Childrens Hospital (Recognized as the nation’s safest pediatric hospital system)

This broad range of rotation sites contributes to a more expansive knowledge base and robust clinical experience. Our goal is to provide excellent training so residents have the skills, capability, and confidence to immediately step into an anesthesiology attending role upon graduation. However, many graduates choose to continue their training in subspecialties such as cardiothoracic, critical care, chronic pain, and obstetrics at highly sought-after fellowship programs.

Our training location is phenomenal. HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital is located about 50 miles north of Tampa in sunny Brooksville, Florida. We are centrally located to major theme parks, cultural activities, and major sporting events. Spend days off kayaking with manatees in Weeki Wachee Springs State Park, taking in a sunset on Clearwater Beach, or getting an adrenaline rush on one of the many roller coasters at Busch Gardens Theme Park. The possibilities for an active and rewarding quality of life at HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital/USF Morsani College of Medicine are endless.

Thank you for your interest in our anesthesiology residency program. We look forward to meeting you!

With Warmest Regards,
Dr. Boles
